Dr Julia Reid MEP, who represents the South West counties & Gibraltar, says: “with Brexit, we will finally be free to reject EU environmental and climate policies that have been detrimental to our economies.”

Commenting in the European Parliament in Strasbourg this week on the emissions of certain atmospheric pollutants, UKIP MEP Dr Julia Reid, said that UKIP believes member states should be free to adopt their own specific measures at national level.

Dr Reid, who is UKIP’s national Science Spokesperson, says that UKIP “believes in importance of improving air quality” and recognises the detrimental effects that long term exposure to air pollution can have on human health.

“However UKIP is against further EU legislation, and in this instance, we are concerned about the increased administrative burden for industry and governments. Member states should be free to adopt specific measures at national level.

“With Brexit, we will finally be free to reject EU environmental and climate policies that have been detrimental to our economies.

“We will be able to autonomously determine our own policy whilst mobilising our own resources in this area. Free from the EU commission, the UK will provide a reliable and consistent regulatory environment in order to facilitate investment in all affordable energy technologies at the same time as putting the health and interests of our citizens first.”
